STONES IN LANDSCAPE

17.05.2014

At ZETA we work with many different projects both small scale and big scale. Whether it is a small extension to a house or it is a big urban plan we always focus on finding the solution that is just right for the specific place and the specific needs of the project and client.

Recently we complete the design proposal for a new single family house in Saltangará where the main focus was on a close integration between the surrounding landscape and the house itself. We call the result Stones in Landscape.

The new house sits like 2 overlapping stones nestled in a rough and wild landscape known from the Faroese mountainside. A traditional Faroese grass roof combined with reuse of rainwater contributes to the integration of house and landscape while the warm and organic interior of the house creates a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere for the family.

ZETA WINS 3. PRIZE

01.06.2012

ZETA has won 3. prize in the open international competition New City Center Klaksvik. Out of the 156 proposals submitted ZETA won 3. prize with a proposal that takes its starting point in the unique landscape of Klaksvik and the old Faroese tradition of gradually developed clusters of houses traditionally called “býlingar”.

The competition proposal unites the future buildings of Klaksvik New City Center in four clusters inspired from the traditional “býlingar”. The four clusters run from the bottom of the fjord towards the south through a unifying landscape laid out as a common green area.

The vegetation and paths within the common landscape are defined as the Detour, the Shortcut and the Sports Road and are an important part of the new town centre, both because of their interplay with the buildings and because of their role as transitions to the vast unkempt natural environment of the surrounding landscape and mountains.

The jury said:
“The combination of old Faroese building traditions and a forceful and exciting contemporary idiom is very interesting and deserves great respect.”
