About
ZETA has been commissioned to design the new parking area of Vágar Airport, the only airport in the Faroe Islands. In 2014, Vágar Airport was provided with a new terminal, responding the needs of an increasing activity.
The design of the parking area involves different entities such as the terminal, the parking, the pedestrian tunnel and the landscape. The concept is to get the different entities to melt together in order to create one entity.
The building of the terminal engages in the area thanks to the roof, while the landscape penetrates the parking area and all the way to below the terminal´s roof. The area where the building and landscape meet is a green area, splitting the parking area from the terminal.
The green “in-between” area is shaped by planted mounds between which footpath create a pedestrian, safe connection between the terminal and the parking areas, as well as sitting area.
The pedestrian tunnel facilitates and secures the travelers while walking from the to the parking areas. The tunnel is design with see-through panels and many exits to the parking area.
